The Sanskrit word for art is Kalā. The word Kalā has one of the meanings as, a very minute division of time or a degree. To me, art is an expression of an individual about time; the time that we understand as experience and perceptions.
Art is like an ode to time. A visual lyric that evolves out of time is art. What is borne through time is art. What passes on to generations is art.
Art is a confluence of time, the tenses. It is a manifestation of what is experienced, how it is perceived, and how it is further expounded as the artist's imagination and influences.
Our love for art distinguishes us as a culture. Our understanding of art distinguishes us as a culture or civilization. Cities are reckoned by the art they exhibit. We talk of a cultural city, we talk of an architectural city, we talk of a classical city, we talk of a modern city.
What forms civilizations is art. We are so much surrounded by art of so many forms that we seldom comprehend that it weaves so deeply in our daily life. Where will one not find art?
